The technical challenge of this seasonal flatlay – produced for Don Giannatti’s Project 52 – focused on the behaviour of a single large light source against a stark white surface. Maintaining a clean, high-key background while preserving the delicate, organic shadows of the festive arrangement required precise control over the fall-off.
The composition was a collaborative effort, as my children placed the items, including high–quality chocolates acquired during a previous assignment at Naschwerk. The image was shot late in the 2022 holiday season, so the timing necessitated its use for the following year.
There is a certain technical satisfaction in an image that retains its integrity long after the initial impulse for the shot has passed.
