Returning to the laser lab a few weeks after documenting the CARS optical paths, I met with Evaggelos Sidiropoulos again – this time to shift the focus from the instrumentation to the scientist. While the previous session was an exercise in technical reconstruction, these portraits were about capturing the human behind the data.

The trust established during the complex overhead shoot allowed for a fluid process; Evaggelos operated the system, providing an authentic environment where the rhythmic pulse of the pump lasers layered a gritty base for the session and the cigarette smoke we needed to make the laser beams visible completed the disco-atmosphere.
