For a project on people at work I visited master violin maker Clas Reimers – the only violin maker in the region. In his workshop in Obersetzen, located in between Siegen and Kreuztal, he has been building and repairing string instruments for almost thirty years.
The fascination of violin making to me is the precise work to tenth of millimeters with tiny planes that go into an that has to withstand the considerable tension of the strings. It was a pleasure to photograph in the calm and concentrated environment that his work demands.
